Crafting, ClearCorrect and career flexibility - Samina's journey at mydentist

by Data update User | Oct 23, 2024

At mydentist, we know our people are the beating heart of all we achieve. As the UK’s leading provider of dentistry, we ensure our Support Centre, Academy, in-practice colleagues and the self-employed clinicians who choose to work with us across our 530+ modern practices have the support they need to thrive – both inside and outside of work.

Earlier this year, we debuted a new set of people values, developed with input from over 3,500 participants across all levels of mydentist, to reflect our commitment to putting our people and colleagues first. We caught up with Mrs Samina Price, a self-employed dentist based at mydentist Buckshaw Village to learn more about her experience of the flexibility and choice she can access at mydentist.

Meet Samina, dental clinician and crafter

Samina graduated from Liverpool Dental School in July 1992. For most of her career, she focused on delivering general dentistry. But when she chose to start practising at mydentist Buckshaw Village, her professional life took a refreshing turn.

Samina not only expanded her skills by learning to offer ClearCorrect aligner treatment but rediscovered her passion for crafting—a creative outlet that had taken a backseat during her years of running an independent practice.

When asked about what she enjoys most about her work Samina says, “My main areas of interest are preventative care. I also take great pride in supporting nervous patients through their dental health journey.”

Samina's future, filled with choice

One of the biggest advantages Samina has found since joining mydentist is the freedom from the administrative stresses that come with running an independent practice.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, after selling her independent practice, Samina’s love for sewing was reignited. What started as making facemasks for family members soon evolved into a renewed interest in fashion. For Samina, crafting is deeply personal, an avenue for expressing her unique style and creativity. She loves making clothes that reflect her personality, often preferring her own creations over store-bought items.

At mydentist, we understand the importance of work-life balance. We offer clinicians the flexibility to choose their working hours and a practice location that best suits their lifestyle, both at the time of joining and as their personal circumstances change.

Since joining mydentist, Samina's can focus on what she loves—both in and out of the practice. Samina now works two days a week, giving her ample time to indulge in her favourite pastimes, including crafting, which she’s been passionate about since her early days as a dentist and spend time with her family.

Crafting is a form of self-care

For Samina, crafting isn't just a hobby; it’s a form of self-care and a way to balance her busy life as a clinician, grandmother and creative spirit. Samina’s skills aren’t limited to sewing; she’s also adept at knitting, crocheting, and exploring other creative outlets. Sharing her projects with her practice team and patients has become a wonderful way to build connections beyond dentistry. Many patients are intrigued by her latest creations, and these conversations often lead to a deeper bond.

Samina says “I love sharing what I'm working on with the practice team and my patients. Everyone has a craft of some sort that they're passionate about, just talking about those passions is a wonderful way to connect and engage.”

Even during her downtime in practice, you might find Samina knitting or crocheting, using these moments to unwind and recharge after a busy day of appointments. She believes crafting offers a more fulfilling way to relax than mindlessly scrolling through a phone. The careful attention to detail and patience required in crafting mirrors the skills Samina uses in her dental work—a link she finds particularly rewarding.

Life at mydentist Buckshaw Village

At mydentist, we believe in our People Values: respecting each other, growing together and achieving as one. These values shine through in Samina’s journey as a clinician at mydentist Buckshaw Village. After years of running her own practice, Samina has found a place where she can truly be herself—balancing her passion for dentistry with her love of crafting. With the flexibility and support offered at mydentist, Samina has been able to create a career that aligns with both her professional goals and personal passions.

Samina has built a strong rapport with her team, particularly with Jill, who began her career as a dental nurse and now excels as Buckshaw Village's dedicated treatment coordinator. Jill's support has been invaluable, allowing Samina to focus on providing outstanding patient care while leaving much of the administration to a capable team.

Whether she's helping her patients achieve a confident smile or creating a unique piece of clothing, Samina’s story is a testament to the importance of balance and following your passions.
