Under 18's braces

It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

To see if it’s right for you or your teenager, you’ll first have an assessment with one of our team who will explain the different treatments, what is involved and our finance options*. There are no long waiting lists, so if you are keen to go ahead we can book an appointment to see an orthodontist without delay and begin the treatment journey.

Metal
fixed braces

Metal fixed appliances consist of small metal brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements. The ties can be coloured giving you the option to customise the brace.
Clear
aligners

Clear aligners offer a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, customised removable aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Advanced technology allows you to visualise your completed treatment. This is a great option for those wanting a more discreet, wire free treatment.

Qualification: Dip Orth Therapy RCS England 2012, Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy RCS England 2012 GDC No. 193079* Felicity has a wealth of knowledge in the dentistry field and previously worked for {my}dentist in South Wales before moving to the Cambridgeshire area. She qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2010 and graduated from The Royal College of Surgeons in 2012 as an Orthodontic Therapist. She is currently studying Dental Radiography with a view to have gained a full qualification in this field during 2021. Felicity is fantastic with the patients and always goes the extra mile to help them out. She has a lovely little family and enjoys spending time with her children and fiancé. She has a great passion for animals and her dream would be to have a mini farm someday with lots of dogs to run around with her children!
Mr.Huw Jeremiah (Special Smiles Limited) Qualified from: BDS BSc MFDS RCS MSc MOrth RCS FDS (Orth) RCS United Kingdom, 2001 GDC No: 79822

Huw qualified from Guy's Dental Hospital in 2001. He then worked in practice in his home town Swansea and then as a Senior House Officer in a number of hospital training posts across the UK. In 2004 he entered specialist training at King's College London qualified in 2007. After this Huw spent a further two years training to be a Consultant at Guy's Dental Hospital London. Huw has previously worked at consultant level at Great Ormond Street Hospital. In addition to working at OrthoWorld, Huw also works as a Consultant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. Huw has a specialist interest in missing teeth's. He has published research on an international level. His passion is clinical treatment to the highest standard. Huw will be happy to receive referrals for both NHS and private treatment. All patients will be returned to their referring dentist at the end of their orthodontic treatment.
