mydentist has supported dentists from 31 countries who wanted to work in the UK.
If you have a primary dental qualification from the European Economic Area (EEA)
Your qualifications from your degree will be recognised in the UK allowing you to work as a dentist straight away.

Firstly, you will need to apply to the GDC for registration as a dentist to practise in the UK.

Once you have submitted your application, we will arrange for a member of our clinical team (link to the new meet the clinical team page) to call you and discuss your clinical experience. This is an interview to understand your clinical experience, but also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and speak to a peer who is working with mydentist to get a real insight to what life is like as dentist in the UK. The call normally takes approximately 60 minutes.

Next, our clinical resourcing team will work with you to identify your specific requirements to understand what the perfect role for you looks like. Once we have identified a shortlist of roles based on what type of contract you want, type of practice and your long-term career goals we will arrange visits to the practices to meet the teams. If you are not currently living in the UK or need to relocate, we can arrange a video meeting instead.

If you are successful, we will make you a formal offer. At this point one of our clinical support advisors will send you a contract. They will work with you to collate all the relevant compliance documents and arrange for you to attend an induction.

To work for the NHS, you will be required to complete a mentorship which will typically take 12 months to complete.

You will therefore need to apply for your NHS Performer Number (details of this process are here) for which you will need to provide a number of documents, and for a panel or dental advisor to approve you. This can take a while but wherever possible we will offer you the opportunity to work in practice seeing private patients.

If you are relocating to the UK we also have a dedicated relocation & immigration manager who will help you apply for a sponsorship visa (if required), set up a bank account, and make sure you are prepared for your new life in UK.

Before you start working in your new practice you will attend your induction at the mydentist academy in Manchester. It will cover CPR, regulatory best practices and give advice on how to get the most from your career with us.

Once you have completed all these steps you will start in your new role at your selected practice. In your first week you will undergo a practice orientation and really get to know your new team. As part of your mentorship, you will also receive on-going support from the local regional clinical team including the clinical support manager and the clinical director.
If you have an overseas qualification from outside of the EEA

You will need an appropriate level of English before you sit the ORE and will need to show this by sitting the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

If you pass the ORE, you’ll be eligible to register with the GDC to work in the UK.
