It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

There are no long waiting lists, so if you are keen to go ahead we can book an appointment to see an orthodontist without delay and begin the treatment journey.

Metal
fixed braces

Metal fixed appliances consist of small metal brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements. The ties can be coloured giving you the option to customise the brace.
Iconix
braces

Iconix braces are a sophisticated and elegant alternative to traditional braces. These braces are made of stainless-steel champagne-coloured brackets that provide aesthetics of rose gold attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements.
Clear
aligners

Clear aligners offer a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, customised removable aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Advanced technology allows you to visualise your completed treatment. This is a great option for those wanting a more discreet, wire free treatment.

Dr.Lorenzo Arpaia (Orthodontist) Qualified from: Orthodontics Rome, 2008 GDC No: 100710

Lorenzo qualified as a dentist from University of Rome (Tor Vergata) in 2004, before gaining his three-year program master's degree in Orthodontics, at the University of L’Aquila (Hons). He became a GDC registered Orthodontist in 2009. Lorenzo regularly attends training to keep up to date on the latest developments, both in orthodontics and in other branches of dentistry. He has attended courses all over the world and interacted with many patients from a wide variety of backgrounds. Among the numerous specialised courses he attended, a special mention should be made for the one held at the Charles H Tweed orthodontic Foundation’ in Arizona, USA. Lorenzo provides a full range of orthodontic options in Grimsby to start your teeth straightening journey, from the conventional metal brackets, Iconix and ceramic brackets and then through to Invisalign and Spark clear aligners for all age groups and loves seeing patients leave with the beautiful straight smile they always dreamed of. She worked at the DPoW Hospital as an Orthodontic Nurse and qualified as an Orthodontic Nurse in 2008 from the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield. Loraine qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist in 2011 with a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy from the Royal College of Surgeons England via the Yorkshire Orthodontic Therapy course at Leeds Dental Institute. Loraine is passionate about her work and loves working in orthodontics as we all work together on the teeth straightening journey here in Grimsby.
