About mydentist, Stevenson Square, Manchester

Welcome to mydentist Manchester, set in the heart of the vibrant Northern Quarter. We provide dental care to the busy bees of Manchester and its surrounding areas. We offer a wide range of treatments both NHS and private, from composite bonding, veneers, teeth straightening, clear braces with Invisalign and ClearCorrect, facial aesthetics (anti ageing treatments) to dental implants, there’s treatment options for everyone. As we know a lot of our patients lead busy lives, we offer evening and weekend appointments. Carly, Chloe, and Charlize our Treatment Coordinators provide free consultations for patients that wish to discuss any treatments, prices, and information. Our patient-centred approach is at the core of our work from reception to clinicians, we love to help our patients smile and feel comfortable. Unfortunately, we don’t provide parking at the practice, however there are a number of car parks within a 2-minute walk, and we are just a 10-minute walk from both Piccadilly and Victoria train stations.

We're using less paper

To reduce the amount of paperwork in our practices and to make life easier for our patients, we’re introducing electronic forms for you to fill in ahead of your appointments. These will replace many of the forms you normally complete in practice. This change also helps us reduce our impact on the environment, saving millions of sheets of paper per year.

  • Dr .Dora Wittmer (Orthodontist) Qualified from: University of Debrecen 2002 Specialist Orthodontist University of Debrecen 2010 Debrecan, 2002 GDC No: 229594
    Dora is a specialist orthodontist who graduated in Dentistry in 2002 at the Medical University Debrecen, Hungary. In 2004 she became a Specialist Dentist and in 2010 a Specialist Orthodontist. Dora completed her training in Invisalign in London 2013 and her master class training in 2014.She is an experienced clear aligner provider. She is constantly updating her knowledge with nationwide and international courses. Dora is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and the European Orthodontic Society. She also has experience in fixed appliances and passive self ligation systems. Dora has a passion about aesthetics and she has completed an advanced anti-ageing course at the Derma Institute Manchester. In her free time she likes travelling and spending time with her family and her dog.
  • Dr.Joanne Beaumont Qualified from: BDS Ncle, United Kingdom, 2012 GDC No: 227534
    Jo graduated from Newcastle in 2012 and has since had experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery and restorative dentistry in hospital settings as well as general dental practice both NHS and privately. Jo obtained her Membership of the faculty of dental surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in medical education from Edge Hill University and uses this to teach and assess dental students at the Leeds Dental Institute. Jo was awarded a distinction in her MSc in clinical periodontology via the University of Central Lancashire and has had papers published in the field of periodontology and restorative dentistry. Her main focus in the care of periodontitis is patient education and motivation in order to achieve long-lasting periodontal stability. This is supplemented by high quality non-surgical periodontal therapy and periodontal surgery where indicated. Jo is also keen on the use of evidence-based regenerative techniques in order to achieve an optimal result.     Kostas graduated in Greece obtaining his DDS degree from the faculty of dentistry at the university of Athens. after working a short period of time at a private practice in Athens, he decided to move to the United Kingdom where he developed an interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. After completing a year long course in aesthetic dentistry in the Paul Timpton academy, he was selected to complete a master degree in restorative adhesive dentistry in Sheffield Dental School. The course provided him with knowledge in all aspects of restorative dentistry with a special interest in adhesive dentistry, a branch of dentistry which deals with adhesion or bonding to the natural substance of teeth. Kostas believes in evidence based dentistry, showing the benefits of reduced tooth preparation and the importance of an intact enamel structure for the long term health of teeth. Kostas also has a passion for playing tennis.
  • Dr.Matthew Chaplin Qualified from: BDS Lond 2013 England, 2013 GDC No: 244979
    Matthew graduated from King's College London in 2013 with the prestigious Peter Lunt Prize. In the following year, during his foundation training he was a finalist for the UK’s Young Dentist of the Year Award, 2014. He then wished to develop his surgical skills further and commenced Dental Core Training in Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery, being placed at the world renowned UCL Eastman, with an Honorary post as a Senior House Officer at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This was followed by a further position at The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and Newcastle Dental Hospital. Working with undergraduate students gave him a passion for teaching. He consequently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at Newcastle University while working as a General Dental Practitioner in Cornwall. This new knowledge was used to become a mentor, allowing him to successfully training Dental Nurses. His holistic approach to patient care has led him to develop skills in other areas, completing his Master’s Degree in Advanced Restorative Dentistry from Manchester University in 2021.     Since graduating from the University of Manchester in 2006, Rahim has developed extensive experience in both aesthetic and restorative dentistry, whilst perusing his personal interest in dental implantology. He has successfully completed an MSc in Dental Implantology. Since 2007 Rahim has worked solely in private practice and has a broad experience in treating multiple dental challenges including: complex tooth wear cases, dental phobics, advanced gum disease and multidisciplinary cases. Rahim now solely focuses within the field of implantology and is a peripatetic implantolgist and works across multiple practices around the northwest. She takes pride in building relationships with patients, putting them at ease and ensuring they have the best experience from start to finish, which is why she was the perfect person to work alongside Hannah as a Treatment Coordinator. Carly uses her skills and knowledge to discuss treatment options with patients and give them the 5 star journey all our patients deserve. Outside of work Carly loves shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

    Lindsey qualified at Glasgow University Dental Hospital in 1993 and was awarded the Stafford Miller Oral Health Promotion Prize for the best projects for her year. Lindsey is our senior dental hygienist. Her dental philosophy is to treat the patient ‘holistically’ the real challenge is trying to motivate her patients to change their habits for the better to improve their overall health. Over the years Lindsey has always further developed herself and pursued her interests, such as taking her Bsc in Psychology. To relax Lindsey enjoys the simpler things in life such as; Meditation and walking her 2 dogs.

    Ruth started working in Dentistry as a trainee dental nurse in Anglesey 2008, since then she has worked for practices in Cambridgeshire, gaining experience nursing in orthodontics and dental implants. Ruth passed the National Certificate in Dental Nursing in 2011, the British Dental Association Certificate in Dental Radiography in 2013 and the IRMER dental referrers course in 2017, and qualified from The Greater Manchester School for Dental Care Professionals with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy in the same year. Ruth enjoys the positive impact her role has on promoting patients long term oral health. Outside of work Ruth is a member of her local Slimming World social team, a singer in a band and supporter of the Cats Protection charity.

    Sam graduated from the University of CEU, San Pablo Madrid in 2021. After graduating Sam spent a year coordinating aligner design and fabrication in Madrid honing her skills. She is always working to improve her knowledge by attending both national and international courses. Sam currently practices both NHS and private work in Manchester. She now provides clear aligner treatments (teeth straightening). Currently Sam is studying restorative dentistry at Tipton training academy in order to enhance her skills in aesthetic, restorative dentistry and whitening, in order to help patients improve their smile and gain confidence. Studying internationally has allowed Sam to pick up multiple languages and she now speaks English, Mandarin and Spanish. In her spare time Sam really enjoys sketching and traveling, and always looks forward to her next adventure!

    Evangelos graduated from Aristotle in 2010.During his 2 final years of studies he worked at a dental implantology practice where he gained a deeper knowledge of implants.After completing his studies he joined the forces for one year where he was appointed at the military hospital where he had the opportunity to develop his skills in different areas of dentistry. Evangelos moved to the UK in 2011 where he started working in NHS/mixed practices across Manchester.In 2014 he completed a course in Aesthetic dentistry at Eastman dental institute, in order to improve his skills in providing aesthetic dentistry. Evangelos is also a certified invisalign Go provider offering an alternative to conventional orthodontics.His main aim is to help his patients to get the smile they need to improve their confidence.     Matt graduated from Newcastle University in 2010 and has experience of working in both NHS and private practice. He completed a two-year post-graduate course in Aesthetic and Restorative dentistry at Tipton Training Academy, and was awarded the prize for ‘Best Dentist on the Restorative Course’ in his second year. The course has given him experience in all aspects of restorative and cosmetic dentistry including white fillings, crowns and bridgework, whitening and veneers. It also gave him a more detailed understanding of the complex way in which teeth bite together and move over each other, giving a solid foundation to his restorative work and allowing him to treat clicks and pains in the jaw. Matt believes in an evidence-based approach and likes to take the time to talk his patients through treatment options allowing them to make an informed choice.

    Sanjay graduated with a BDS from the University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2015.After his training year, Sanjay spent a year at North Manchester General Hospital in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. After this he spent 2 years at Peninne Care and trained to do IV sedation through Eastmans Dental Institute in London. Sanjay enjoys delivering high quality, affordable private care to his patients and has a keen interest in improving the aesthetic quality of his patients smiles by using his knowledge in clear aligners, composite bonding and advanced whitening. Outside of work Sanjay has a keen love for dogs, and you'll often hear about his miniature dachshund.

    Aris graduated from Ovidius University in 2001. After working some years in Greece in a private practice he decided to move to England in 2009 to pursue a postgraduate degree. Until 2012 he worked at a mixed NHS and private clinic in Essex. He was then accepted in Manchester University for a Master Degree in Endodontics. Aris joined [{my}dentist as soon as he graduated from his MSc and embarked on a journey to set up a referral network for endodontic treatment with amazing support of his colleagues and practice manager. He is also sharing his knowledge at Manchester University Dental Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in the postgraduate programme of Endodontics. Aris says “I do what I enjoy, root canal treatments and everything related to them.”

    Since Kyle graduated at The University of Sheffield in 2013, he has practiced both with the NHS and privately throughout the North-West of England. Throughout that time he has gained experiences in many aspects of dentistry and has developed a passion for conservative dentistry, a method of dentistry which aims to maintain as much of your natural tooth as possible. This includes both tooth coloured fillings and dental whitening. Kyle has developed his knowledge of dentistry by completing a postgraduate diploma in restorative dentistry and is currently progressing further to achieve a masters level. Kyle believes it is important to listen to patients, which enables him to tailor dental care to their specific needs and endeavours to make the dental experience as comfortable as possible. Outside of work Kyle enjoys golf, tennis, and spending time with his friends and family.

    Robert Stone qualified from the Dental University of Manchester United Kingdom in 2016, he has worked for several years as a private hygienist in the central Manchester area treating a variety of advanced cases of dental gum disease. Rob has since been working as an Associate Dentist in the Manchester area for the NHS. He has completed his MSc in Periodontology at the University of Central Lancashire United Kingdom in 2022. He is a member of the British Society of Periodontology and the American Academy of Periodontology. Rob's interests are disease management, stabilising dental gum disease and preventing it's progression.

What are dental implants?

  • Consultation Your initial consultation will be with either our Implant Surgeon or Treatment Coordinator (TCO), who can discuss the different types of implants, single or multiple depending on your need. Following this there may be a need for a more clinical focused consultation.

  • Diagnostic Scans We will carry out a number of digital scans, to build a digital 3D model of your mouth so we can get a clear picture of the area we will place the implant, and a more detailed X-ray using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography scanner so that our Implant surgeon can assess the state of the bone below the gum to get a really clear picture of your treatment need.

  • Treatment Plan Once our experienced implant surgeon has assessed all of you scans they will explain the nature of your treatment, the stages involved and costs. We offer flexible payment options to make implants even more affordable.

  • Commence Treatment Once you are happy we will begin treatment. The length and numbers of appointments will vary depending on the complexity of your particular need, but your Implant Surgeon will have detailed all of this in your treatment plan.

  • Implant Placed Once the implant(s) are placed it may be necessary it might be necessary to allow time for healing before attaching the replacement teeth. Once we are happy the implant has healed we will arrange a series of appointments to fabricate the replacement teeth.

  • Aftercare Your Implant Surgeon will advise you about looking after your implant and may well give you some painkillers to help with the pain over the days after your surgery as well as detailed advice about cleaning the implants and the teeth attached to them.

It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

Chemical peel

Alpha hydroxyl acids are commonly used for superficial chemical peels. Glycolic acid is one of our most popular treatments and takes 20 minutes to complete. Skin will feel immediately fresh and hydrated after a treatment.

Acid exfolitation removes superficial dead cells, promotes rejuvenation and stimulates collagen in the dermis. This is all scientifically proven and effective to promote skin health.

Skin issues that peels can treat are:

Procedure

During the treatment the skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepped to allow optimal penetration of the acid. Protective barrier cream is placed around highly sensitive areas like the lips and eye region. The acid is brushed onto the face for up to 5 minutes.

The acid is neutralised thoroughly and cooling towels placed on the face. Hydrating PHA cream and vitamin-enriched serum is massaged into the skin, with a final SPF cream for protection. There is a risk of redness and irritation, but redness and tingling will usually subside after 1-2 hours. Most people will be able to walk out of the clinic fresh faced without any signs of treatment. If stronger acid peels are used there may be more sustained side effects.

Advice

Patients are advised to avoid shaving 24 hours after the procedure and avoid the gym and sauna for 48 hours.

Specific skincare products will be advised. If you use these in conjunction with your chemical peels you will see enhanced results.

Chemical peels improve skin health and using these in combination with facial aesthetic treatments will give you natural optimal results.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy involves puncturing the skin lightly with microinjections whilst adding a skin boosting product.The technique of administration varies however, the technique focuses on the superficial layers of the skin with minimal bruising and bleeding. The action of the minor trauma of the skin allows for cell signalling, this causes a cascade of cellular stimulation which helps in skin rejuvenation. The fibroblasts cells which produce collagen infiltrate the areas which cause the renewal of collagen in the area.

Lip injections with fillers is an art form, an eye for what is beautiful and natural is essential. With delicate instrumentation, lip filler injections can be painless, especially with the aid of local anaesthetic and instruments such as the Midas Touch which reduces pain. Advanced injectors of dermal filler use a cannula technique to administer fillers. This means a small port hole is created near the lip and a blunt ended cannula is used to place dermal filler into the lip. There are significant benefits to this rather than using a sharp needle. Bleeding and bruising are significantly reduced, vessels, nerves and vital structures are protected. Using this cannula technique lip fillers can be done with minimal downtime and very little signs they have taken place.

Toxin injections

Botulinum type A toxin is a purified protein used to temporarily reduce the contraction of muscles causing the overlying skin to wrinkle. The most common area to use this treatment is the upper face region; frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet around the eyes.

Many patients request this treatment when frown lines become noticeable. The area treated in between the eyebrows is called the glabella. If lightly treated we can create a very natural look, where no-one can notice that treatment has been carried out. The frown line does not get a chance to embed further and over time it can become less obvious. If requested, there can still be natural movement of the face and eyebrows so you look expressive and natural. Crows feet can be treated delicately around the eye region. The lines can be smoothed out well and in some instances where dark circles and lines are below the eye, these can be softened. If eye bags are established, fluid filled toxin injections will not be effective. Smoothing the crows feet too much can make the eye bags look more noticable. At the consultation this will be ascertained.

The forehead muscle can be very active in some people. Lines are effectively softened in this area, it is important however to ensure the correct dosage and balance of toxin is used so we do not get a brow drop, where there is heaviness of the brow or drooping.

With expert knowledge and a precise eye this is preventable in many cases.

The specific placement of toxin injectables in the forehead allows for brows to be lifted to create an arch form, or raise them to open the eye. This is more often known as a brow lift. We can also correct asymmetry where eyebrows are in different positions.

Treatments can be tailored for patients who want a more natural look. This is common for patients who are unsure about having invasive treatments. As these toxin injections are prescription medications and used in expert hands, patients should feel confident in the knowledge they are in the best and safest care possible.

How Does it Work?

The toxin works by blocking the transmission of chemical messengers from the nerve to the muscle. This can be a mild, moderate or severe reduction in movement depending on the individual requirements.

Does it hurt?

A very fine needle is used and this treatment does not require any local anaesthetic. Many clients find it as tolerable as waxing or threading. Patients that are concerned with pain or needles may opt for using a topical anaesthetic cream before the procedure.

Before Treatment

This treatment is not to be undertaken by pregnant or breast feeding women, any person taking anti-coagulatant therapy or sufferers of certain neuromuscular conditons.

Before treatment avoid medication which may increase risk of bruising and limit alcohol intake.

After Treatment

You will be advised to keep the targeted or affected muscles active for an hour and to avoid heat or cold temperatures, vigorous exercise, lying down or leaning over for 4-6 hours. The day after treatment, expression should be kept to a minimum and facial treatments should be avoided for 2 weeks.

After treatment it is expected that you will start to see improvement within 2 or 3 days. For some people it may take longer. The full results may be judged at 2-3 weeks. You will be invited to attend a review appointment at 2-3 weeks where the success of the treatment may be assessed and adjusted to your personal treatment plan if necessary.

How long will it last?

Results tend to last 3-5 months. Movement will begin recovering after 8 weeks, frequent treatment intervals of less than 3 months are not recommended. Repeating treatments when movement recovers will deliver optimum results over time.

Preventative Toxin Injections

Use of toxin injections in patients with minimal lines can be beneficial. Using tiny doses of toxin can subtly soften developing lines and wrinkles giving the skin a healthy, radiant look.

Mens skin

Texture and Thickness. Men have thicker, tougher skin caused by testosterone production. This is approximately 25% thicker than women’s. The thicker skin can make the wrinkles under the eyes look more pronounced.

The skin also has a rougher texture, however the androgens cause the skin to be more resistant to ageing. Facial hair which if shaved regularly can cause the skin to be sensitive and can often suffer from shaving bumps.

Hydration

Men have larger pores, increased sweat and lactic production than women. Increased sebum production after puberty accounts for longer lasting acne compared to women. Larger pores and increased sebum production allows for more congestion and blackheads. The increased amount of sweat produced and larger pores mean they are prone to bacterial infection and acne. Men do have more hydrated skin, probably due to the natural humectant effect of sebum and lactic acid.

Sweat production is more excessive in men and this can be localised to under the arm, in the armpit region.

Collagen and sun damage

Men have higher collagen density than women. This essentially means men look younger than women over time. What has been observed by experts is men on the whole do not protect their skin from sun damage. This UV damage negates the benefit of increased collagen.
