About mydentist, Elwy Street, Rhyl

Welcome to mydentist, Elwy Street, Rhyl, from teething toddlers to denture wearers, our practice caters for all. You will find a great selection of cosmetic treatments including tooth whitening, teeth straightening, composite bonding, dentures and implants. There is street parking and a pay and display car park near the practice. The practice location is a three-minute walk from the bus and train station in town. Outside of normal practice opening hours please ring the practice telephone number for information on how to access care and advice. For private patients call 01970 623369.

  • Dr.Georgios Karampelas Qualified from: Athens Greece, 2014 GDC No: 260975
    George qualified from Dental University of Athens in 2014. He continued his development in Greece until 2016. He then joined {my}dentist, Elwy street, Rhyl full time in 2016 offering routine dental preventative care to our patients on the NHS as well as providing private treatment options. In 2020 he completed his Postgraduate Degree at Tipton's Academy on Restorative and Aesthetics Dentistry with honours. Following that, he has been offering private and aesthetic treatments for his patients. George provides aesthetic options such as whitening, crowns and veneers. George has a special interest in improving the appearance of patient's teeth using minimally invasive techniques such as Smilefast and bonding. He also provides patients with removable clear braces such as Invisalign and ClearCorrect. In his spare time, he enjoys staying active and playing different sports.
  • Dr.Thony Leif Karlsson Qualified from: BDS Gothenburg , 1996 GDC No: 72812
    Thony graduated at the top of his class in Gothenburg Dental University 1996. Thony Started his career here in North Wales working for the NHS. Due to family commitments Thony returned to Sweden where he worked within the Swedish NHS for several years. While in Sweden he had the opportunity to mentor new dentists and work alongside specialist to widen his knowledge and skills. In 2006 he returned to North Wales to work in the private sector of dentistry. In Thony’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his Wife, son and beloved dog, he loves long walks in and around North Wales as he has a passion for the outdoors and nature.
  • Mr.Christos Lykidis Qualified from: DipDS Athens 2012 Greece , 2012 GDC No: 250424
    Christos qualified from Athens Dental University in 2012. After working as an emergency dentist in his compulsory military service in Greece, he moved to the UK in 2014. Starting from Wrexham and continuing in Colwyn Bay, he completed 6 years working as a general dental practitioner within NHS practices. Between 2018-2021 Christos completed a Restorative Post Graduate Diploma at Tipton Training Academy in Manchester. Ever since he has been focusing solely on private dentistry. In 2021 he joined a fully private practice in Whitchurch and from the end of 2022 he has been offering private dental treatment in {my}dentist, Rhyl. Christos attends various courses in order to upskill in all fields of dentistry. In 2022 he completed the 10 days Simply Endo course in Liverpool and in 2023 he attended Finlay Sutton's Full Denture Course in Lancashire. In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching football as well as spending time with family and friends.
  • Ms.Helen Roper (Hygienist) Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene 2000 UK, 2000 GDC No: 5708
    Helen qualified as a Dental Nurse in 1992 and soon realised that she wanted to become a Hygienist. Helen graduated as a Dental Hygienist from Birmingham University Dental Hospital in 2000. Helen has worked in general practice since qualifying, working along the coast of North Wales, she continues to work in Colwyn Bay and joined {my}dentist Rhyl in March 2020. Helen enjoys working with patients to improve their oral health, providing an essential clinical service and the bedrock of many treatments including scale & polish, airflow (stain removal) and periodontal treatments. Outside of Dentistry,Helen enjoys cooking, dog walking and spending time with her family and friends.
  • Ms.Joanne Dodd (Hygienist) Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene UK, 1997 GDC No: 3823
    Joanne’s Dental career started in August 1985 at Kings College Dental hospital, London when she qualified as a dental nurse. After sparking her interest in dental care, she went onto train as a Dental Hygienist at Eastman Dental Hospital, London qualifying in December 1989. Following 18 years working in various types of practices & industrial institutions (inc GlaxoSmith-cline Beecham, Bank of England) all in the London region, she returned to beautiful North Wales in August 2003. Joanne first started her employment with Elwy Dental practice in December 2003 and has worked at the Rhyl/ Abergele practices on & off from until present date at My{dentist} Rhyl. Joanne enjoys helping patients with regular hygiene treatments, complex Periodontal treatments, and airflow polishes for stain removals. Outside of work Joanne enjoys various past times including cooking, sewing, walking, cycling and recently running.

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a fixed solution for missing teeth that are the closest possible replacement for natural teeth. They involve one or more titanium screws being inserted into your jawbone to mimic a natural tooth root. Dental crowns are securely attached to these to fill the gaps in your mouth. Because dental implants are securely anchored in your jaw you’ll have the confidence to comfortably eat whatever you like.

  • Consultation Your initial consultation will be with either our Implant Surgeon or Treatment Coordinator (TCO), who can discuss the different types of implants, single or multiple depending on your need. Following this there may be a need for a more clinical focused consultation.

  • Diagnostic Scans We will carry out a number of digital scans, to build a digital 3D model of your mouth so we can get a clear picture of the area we will place the implant, and a more detailed X-ray using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography scanner so that our Implant surgeon can assess the state of the bone below the gum to get a really clear picture of your treatment need.

  • Treatment Plan Once our experienced implant surgeon has assessed all of you scans they will explain the nature of your treatment, the stages involved and costs. We offer flexible payment options to make implants even more affordable.

  • Commence Treatment Once you are happy we will begin treatment. The length and numbers of appointments will vary depending on the complexity of your particular need, but your Implant Surgeon will have detailed all of this in your treatment plan.

  • Implant Placed Once the implant(s) are placed it may be necessary it might be necessary to allow time for healing before attaching the replacement teeth. Once we are happy the implant has healed we will arrange a series of appointments to fabricate the replacement teeth.

  • Aftercare Your Implant Surgeon will advise you about looking after your implant and may well give you some painkillers to help with the pain over the days after your surgery as well as detailed advice about cleaning the implants and the teeth attached to them.
