Building confidence and careers: Qadriya’s story at mydentist

At mydentist, we recognise that dental nurses are at the heart of our mission to deliver outstanding patient care. That’s why we prioritise investment in our teams, helping them achieve their career goals while balancing work and life.

A shining example of this is Qadriya Momeni, Head Dental Nurse at mydentist Uxbridge, who was named Dental Nurse of the Year 2024 at the mydentist Excellence Awards. Her incredible journey demonstrates how a passion for dentistry, combined with the right support and opportunities, can lead to exceptional achievements.

The journey from trainee to head dental nurse

Qadriya began her career at mydentist in 2019 as a trainee dental nurse. After qualifying in 2021, her progression was swift—she became lead dental nurse just months later and then head dental nurse five months after that.

When asked about what she felt embracing these opportunities, Qadriya commented: “Taking on such a big responsibility felt unexpected and a bit daunting, especially at age 22. But ultimately, saying ‘yes’ to both promotions has made me grow in ways I never imagined. Leading a clinical team of over 20 team members, including both nurses and clinicians, has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Looking back, if you’d told me two years ago that I’d be here, I would have laughed! This role has pushed me to develop my leadership skills, build so much confidence and find strength I didn’t know I had.”

Even with her demanding role, Qadriya continues to work towards her long-term goals. She is currently studying for a foundation year in dental hygiene to prepare for her future.

She continued: “My long-term goal is to become a hygienist, with a special focus on periodontal disease. I’m passionate about helping patients build a strong foundation of oral health before moving toward aesthetics. Beyond my clinical goals, I aim to always be a role model by showing kindness, resilience and hard work, qualities I plan to uphold no matter what challenges come my way.”

“I’m deeply grateful for his guidance, patience and the wealth of knowledge he shared...”

Qadriya attributes much of her success to the support network she has found at mydentist. From essential training to mentoring, she’s had the resources to develop her skills and confidence, she commented: “mydentist has been incredibly supportive throughout my career journey. The company has provided me with essential training and connected me with an amazing tutor, Charleene, who was instrumental in helping with my assignments and exam prep, I’ll never forget her support.”

She also highlighted the guidance she received from Dr. Rashed Syed, who took a personal interest in her training when there was no head nurse at the practice: “When I first started, there was no head nurse at the practice, so Dr. Rashed Syed took it upon himself to train me. I still can’t fully grasp just how much he invested in my growth. I’m deeply grateful for his guidance, patience and the wealth of knowledge he shared. His mentorship has been invaluable in building my confidence and shaping the person I am today.”

“One of the most unforgettable moments of my career was at the Excellence Awards...”

Winning Dental Nurse of the Year at the Excellence Awards has been a highlight of Qadriya’s. The award celebrates her commitment, resilience, and outstanding contributions to her practice, when asked about winning the award, Qadriya commented: “One of the most unforgettable moments of my career was at the Excellence Awards, where I was honoured to be named Dental Nurse of the Year 2024. With over 6,000 employees at mydentist and knowing that 1,200 nominations had been submitted, I felt incredibly grateful just to be among the finalists. Hearing my name called as the winner was surreal, I couldn’t believe it. It took a moment for it to sink in and the reality only hit when people started coming up to congratulate me.”

The recognition validated her hard work and dedication to both her team and her patients. She continued: “This award was proof of my hard work, especially for this year and all the dedication I’ve put into my role. Winning this award reminded me of the importance of having an incredible support system around me. It was a moment I’ll never forget, one that motivates me daily to keep striving to make a difference in my patients’ lives and to inspire others in our practice.”
