At mydentist, we know that achieving your goals as a clinician is about more than just clinical skills. It’s about feeling supported, being able to grow your career and building a strong professional network. That’s why we’ve launched our new limited series Know the Drill – designed to offer insight, guidance and peer-to-peer support for dental professionals across the UK – Know the Drill is a podcast for clinicians, created with clinicians.
Featuring four episodes, Know the Drill brings together expert voices from within the mydentist Clinical Network, offering practical advice on mentorship, digital dentistry, professional development, wellbeing and more.
What to expect from Know the Drill
Each episode of Know the Drill features in-depth conversations with experienced clinicians and other dental professionals who work at a mydentist practice, our dedicated Support centre or in-house training centre, the Academy.
Each episode gives these dental professionals a platform to share their real-life experiences and actionable insights to help dental professionals navigate their careers.
Episode 1: Becoming a mentor at mydentist
The first episode explores the journey of mentorship with Matt Arnold, Clinical Development Advisor in the Northeast, alongside mentees Anitha Josie and Asad Shah. They discuss what it means to be a mentor or mentee, dispel common misconceptions and offer practical advice for those looking to take part in the mydentist mentorship scheme. Give this episode a try if you want to hear more on how Matt, Anitha and Asad also feel the mydentist mentorship has supported their professional growth and strengthened their careers.
Episode 2: Optimising the intraoral scanner for your dental practice
With digital dentistry evolving rapidly, the second episode focuses on how clinicians can optimise intraoral scanning in their practice. Clinical Digital Manager Dale Flanagan leads the discussion, joined by Clinical Development Advisors Neil Simkin and Jess Patel-Barnes. Together, they break down the importance of digital scanning, share expert tips and highlight the support available for clinicians adopting this technology. This episode will no doubt be of interest to those clinicians who want to learn more about applying new dental technologies in their practice.
Episode 3: Developing a new interest
Expanding your clinical skills can be an exciting but daunting process. In episode three, Clinical Development Advisors Rosanna Posl and Ruairi Leonard discuss how clinicians can explore new areas of interest, with a focus on clear aligners. They provide insights into how to start offering aligners, the future of this treatment and how to find the right interest for your practice.
Episode 4: Maintaining your mental and physical wellbeing
A healthy work-life balance is key to job satisfaction, professional success and providing the best care for patients. That’s why we’re proud to support our practice teams with initiatives that promote wellbeing, create strong professional communities and ensure clinicians have access to the support they need.
In the final episode, Know the Drill takes a holistic approach, exploring the importance of clinician wellbeing. Dental Therapist and Hygienist Megan Fairhall and Clinician Charmikha Romesh share their personal experiences of managing work-life balance, maintaining good mental health and finding support through professional networks.
A message from our Dr Nyree Whitley, Chief Clinical Officer here at mydentist
Dr Nyree Whitley, Chief Clinical Officer here at mydentist, highlighted the importance of Know the Drill in providing peer-to-peer support: “One of the biggest barriers you can face as a self-employed clinician is feeling isolated – that’s why I’m so proud to launch Know the Drill, our new podcast at mydentist, in which we’re able to draw on knowledge and insights from our Clinical Development Advisors and brilliant clinicians to support dental professionals inside and outside of our network.”
Nyree continued: “We know that one of the best ways we can achieve greater work and gain increased job satisfaction is through supporting each other, and as clinicians it can be difficult to navigate some of the challenges that are thrown your way. We’ve been working to understand these challenges and provide peer-to-peer advice to those within the mydentist network through our Clinical Advisory Board, and I’m hopeful that our new podcast will provide welcome insights to clinicians looking for some extra support – whether they’re newly qualified or experienced and looking to extend their network.”
